Diversity Management

"I am the orchestra. I have many parts, and they are all important, but I make of them something far superior to what any is by himself. And although each instrument is different and proud to be different, when they all come together, each forgets his individuality and each does his share in the realisation of a mightier goal than any can attain alone." Donald Elliot

There are many definitions for diversity but, quite simply, it refers to the characteristics that make us different from one another.

Many elements of diversity come from things that we have little or no control over such as race, sex, age and the society into which we are born and raised.

Then there is how we see and interact with the world - perhaps best summed up in a quote by Anais Nin, "we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are".

Every one of us has a life experience specific to ourselves and this is what we project into the world around us and particularly, how we see and, as a result, treat one another.

The Siyakha Diversity Management programme addresses our clients unique diversity challenges, be it race, gender, religion, age, culture, language and many others.  Each intervention is tailor-made and aligned with each challenge our client is facing.

For many businesses we have a tendency to think that if its not broken, it doesn't need fixing.

Diversity issues are often not apparent.  We quietly go about with our paradigms and stereotypes without any concept of the possible cost of incorrect and/or misguided views, while leadership remains unaware of the silent toxin that is holding the organisation back.

Explicit or implicit resistance to workplace diversity and its associated change, comes at a cost be it interpersonal conflict, resentment or fear.

The net result is issues such as poor workplace communication, low morale, poor employee engagement, low productivity and retention risk.

All the more reason to address Workplace Diversity. Leadership needs the vision to see its value and the courage to face the discomforts that may initially accompany it.

For real success a single intervention is not enough and an integrated approach needs to be taken.
